Carers Support recognised as best practice example in new national resource for health and social care professionals

26th March 2025

Carers Support is proud to be featured as an example of best practice in a new resource developed by the Carers Partnership (Carers UK and Carers Trust) as part of the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Health and Wellbeing Alliance.

The resource was created with input from unpaid carers, health and social care professionals, virtual ward leaders, local carers’ organisations, and local authorities, alongside colleagues from NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care.

The resource, Identifying and Supporting Unpaid Carers in England to Improve Integrated System Working, aims to help health and care systems across England improve the identification, support, and inclusion of unpaid carers. It brings together statutory duties and best practice resources developed by the Carers Partnership (2022–2025) to reduce health inequalities faced by carers, enhance carer identification, and drive meaningful change in care delivery.

Carers Support is highlighted as a Good Practice Example for our work in identifying carers within GP settings. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the lives of unpaid carers by ensuring they are recognised and supported within healthcare environments.

“We are delighted to be recognised in this important national resource,” said Richard Fox, Health Team Manager at Carers Support. “Identifying and supporting unpaid carers is vital to improving health outcomes and ensuring carers receive the help they need. We are grateful to all those who contributed to this work and will continue to advocate for better support systems for unpaid carers.”

The resource is available to health and social care professionals and aims to inspire and guide improved practices across the sector.
