The awards programme is for GP practices in Bristol and South Gloucestershire to work with the Carers Support Centre to see how carer and dementia friendly your GP surgery is.
A GP carer liaison worker from Carers Support works with the practice to look at services provided and how carer-friendly/aware they are. This is scored against agreed criteria, evidencing their commitment to carers, and following successful completion of this audit an award in recognition of this good work is made.
There are three levels of award: Gold, Silver and Bronze. For example, points are awarded to GP practices which:
This is a fantastic way of looking at the work most of you will be already completing and by evidencing it through the awards programme; it allows the surgery to have regular contact with the Liaison Worker and the support and information they can provide (including carer awareness training to staff).
At the same time, it provided the GP practice with a well-deserved award that can be shown to the CQC and patients, demonstrating their commitment to carers.
