Our current opportunities:
Are you looking for a new year opportunity to develop your skills and experience?
We are looking for a Befriending and Community Connection volunteer for our new Befriending & Connection service for unpaid carers in South Glos, aged 55 and over. Carers can often be isolated and feel lonely by their caring role and having someone to talk to can really help.
We are looking for volunteers who can offer their time for an hour a week, over one or two phone calls, either during the daytime or early evening. Each carer is offered up to 6 consecutive weeks of support. If you can support more than one carer at the same time that would be great, but supporting even one carer will make a real difference.
You will need to demonstrate sensitivity in communicating with people who care for someone who is unwell, be empathic and understanding and be able to manage boundaries.
If you are reliable, have experience or an awareness of the issues that carers face, and have good listening and communication skills, we would love to hear from you. We provide an excellent package of training and on-going support to all our volunteers.
Unpaid carers look after a family member, often all day, every day, with little or no time for themselves. It’s sometimes impossible for carers to leave the person they care for, so if you can give a few hours of your time, they can take a break.
If you can regularly spare 2-3 hours (Monday to Friday) a week or fortnightly during the day, we’d really like to hear from you. The service we provide covers South Glos, so it would be ideal if you live in or close to this area.
No personal care is involved, and previous experience is not required.
We provide induction, training, on-going support and travel expenses. Successful applicants will require an enhanced DBS check.

Being a young carer can be challenging. Our activities are aimed at supporting these young carers and giving them a break away from their caring role. Our project covering Bristol and South Gloucestershire is looking for volunteers to attend groups and activities with young carers under the supervision of paid staff. Can you offer an hour or more each week or even only sometime in the school holiday or on a term-time only basis? We are looking for volunteers to support activities regularly and occasionally.
You may have a skill you could share with young carers, ranging from arts, music, or cooking, or you may be a good listener? Volunteers help us to enrich the help and support we provide for young carers. Aside from the natural feel-good factor you may get from helping someone in need, we offer the opportunity to gain valuable skills and access training. Many of our volunteers’ reports feel truly valued and some have gone on to paid work or formal training or university courses. Others just want to be busy and helpful in their retirement years.
To make sure you are well-prepped for your role with young carers, we offer a variety of online courses. These range from ‘safeguarding’ to more specific training around equalities and diversity. As a volunteer, you will have a member of the staff team to support and advise you in everything you do. If you have a particular interest or skill you would like to develop, we will try to support you by matching you to a role that suits your needs.
